AZ Fall League Scouting Report

2004 season

November 23, 2004

AFL stars speak out!

We caught up with four of the AFL's top performers on the day of the championship game to get their perspectives on the AFL season and that day's big game.

------------

Conor Jackson (Diamondbacks - OF)

Conor Jackson"It's a great learning experience for all of us young players. You learn a lot from everybody on your team, especially the guys on the borderline of going to the bigs next year."

"I came in with high expectations. I wanted to hit a little higher in batting average and get my on-base percentage up; I think I've done an okay job of doing that.

"We'll see what it's all about right here --- getting that ring."

------------

Corey Myers (Diamondbacks - 3B/C)

Corey Myers"For me, it was to come here and hopefully show the Diamondbacks that I can help them win. The 40-man rosters came out and I was unfortunately not put on it. It's just a waiting game to see if I did enough here in the Fall League to impress another team to pick me up."

"I think the transition to catching is probably going to prolong my career quite a bit. I'd love to be a Diamondback, but there's 29 other teams that have a chance."

It's a fun situation because this (AFL championship) is the only time in baseball where it's one game, winner take all ... It's been a fun, fun league. It's kind of like an all-star game, except that you've gotten to play with these guys for a month."

------------

Wes Wilkerson (Royals - P)

Wes Wilkerson"I feel real good about the season, and really had no idea I was the league leader (in ERA) ... I had a good season out here and played with a good group of guys ... I have to give some credit for success to my defense. They made the plays."

"It showed I can pitch at the next level or just maybe get a better chance with some team out there. Hopefully, the Royals will give me a chance to help them in the big leagues."

"I had a great time out here, and hopefully we'll come out here with a win."

Omar Quintanilla (Athletics - SS)

Omar Quintanilla"I came here expecting the best, and definitely that was it. There was a lot of talent here and a lot of the best players, so I had fun. I'm just a little worn out already."

"This is the game right here. This is what we came out here for. We worked all this month and a half for this, so we're going to come out, play with all of our hearts, and try to win this thing."
